“We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.” – Jawaharlal Nehru
The diversity of our world unite us, and gives us the chance to explore, engage and experience the best that local cultures and communities have to offer.
Socio-responsible tourism is about traveling by respecting and benefiting the local society and the environment.
At Personal Journeys we are very serious in respecting and promoting Socially Responsible Tourism.
How do we do this?
We promote locally owned and operated hotels with a commitment to the community. We are always on lookout for unique places that are run by locals, creating jobs within the community and are open to the idea of promoting responsible tourism.
Fair wages paid to all guides and partners. Tourism is a respected profession throughout the developing world and most guides are highly qualified, but rarely paid what they deserve. At Personal Journeys our guides are our partners without whom we cannot operate and therefore ensure that they are making a good living to provide for themselves and their families.
Service to others. At Personal Journeys, we believe in creating personal relationships with all of the communities and organizations we work and partner with. We encourage all our guests to partake in some unique volunteer experiences in an effort to bond with our partners and give back on their trip.
Contribute to the local economy. We believe that the best way to help the places we visit is to invest in them. Using the homestay facilities, visiting the local markets helps in boosting the local economy.
Embracing the local culture. Personal Journeys, doesn’t want our guests to simply be “tourists”…we want you to experience the real people and culture of the country you are visiting. This includes meals with local families, spending time in our partner villages, walking through local markets, meeting local business owners, exploring religion and art, and connecting to people as individuals. We want everyone involved with us to feel good about traveling with us and connecting to the local culture.
We strongly believe and always work towards our slogan ‘connecting minds through traveling.’
